why did I wear out my Dura ace cog in 3 months?
I’m running a 40 15 ratio, and I don’t understand why a quality fixed cog would wear out so quickly. I cycle outdoors, but i take care of my bike. Is this normal?
With answer 1, I agree. Chain must have some slack in it to not overload the chain bushings/sprocket. If the front sprocket has – runout – i.e not centered about rotation then you may be loading and unloading the chain significantly. You must be able to move the chain slightly with very little force in every position of the front sprocket otherwise you will overload the chain and sprocket with higher forces than they are designed for. This is one case where the setup of the wheel in the dropouts is critical. Too tight and you will overload the sprocket/chain and too loose and you will drop your chain. Dura Ace might be overkill. I use BMX sprockets and chains on my roadbike and never have issues.
