How to survive in the forest

How to survive in the forest

There has never been a walk admiring the wildflowers, observation points of trees, and suddenly found himself all alone and lost? What if you do not find their way back to safety? While lost in the woods can be a frightening experience, surviving alone in nature is often a matter of common sense, patience and their use with gifts of wisdom offered by nature. All you need to survive for a few days is shelter, heating, food and water.

Steps
Preparation

1. Plan ahead. Do not walk in the desert, do some research first. There are many resources and libraries, but beware: most of the techniques used in these manuals sometimes inaccurate or incomplete. One of the most detailed books on this is "Bushcraft – Survival Skills Outdoor and Wildlife" by Mors Kochanski. More information on flora and fauna of the area you're exploring. Knowledge of local plants and animals can save your life! Also, if you need medication or injections.
2. Make sure someone knows where you are wherever you go in the desert, and the time you intend to go. In this way, someone will realize they are absent to help rescuers quickly alert your friends and be able to tell where to start looking for you. Note: It is like a flight plan "that drives file before exiting. Also, remember to call the person (s) that have notified know when they are back. Like the boy who cried wolf "a false alarm relief wasted resources and can be costly (some communities have begun to charge those responsible).
3. Be prepared. basic tools of survival as a knife, a stone magnesium, matches, rope, whistle, blanket "space" signal mirror, etc. can make the difference between life and death. Even if only in a day's walk, remember to bring essential. After all this equipment is useless if not used properly. Be sure to practice many times in a safe before venturing into the wilderness. Also, know how to catch and cook fish and game in case of need.
4. Telephone laptop spare battery or portable CB radio may be the best, the quickest way to rescue if they are truly lost or injured. A cell signal can be obtained from a hill or a tree – but make sure you are contemplating an increase. serious hikers can even think of investing in an extended personal locator beacon poor or very remote walks.

In the situation

1. Do not panic. The panic is more dangerous than anything else, because it interferes with the operation of its best single tool for the survival of the most useful and versatile mind. When you realize you're lost, before making any otherwise, stop. Breathe deeply and stay calm. Even if you are clinging to a rope halfway into a mountain with a broken leg remember that people have survived exactly this situation.
2. Stand still and look around! Wherever you become their "zero point". Find a way to mark one of spare clothes, a pile of stones, a piece of paper, or anything else easily visible from a distance.
3. Stay in a place not only increase its likely to be found, may also increase their ability to survive by reducing the energy your body uses and the amount of water and food they need. Hunker down and stay. Chances are that someone looks at you, especially if you let someone know your plan (see above).
4. Post your location to maximize the chances that someone finds you. Make noise by whistling, shouting, singing, clapping stones together. If possible, mark its position so it is visible from the air. If you are in a mountain meadow, make three piles of dark leaves and branches in a triangle. In areas of sand, make a big triangle in the sand. In a forest, you can prepare three ready to ignite small fires at any time, with a pile of wet leaves to smoke nearby. Three of anything in the desert is a standard distress signal.
5. From Scouting in your area, being careful not to lose his position. Make sure you can always find your way back to its "zero point" as water, housing or home.
6. Find or create housing. Without adequate housing, which will be fully exposed to the elements and the risk of hypothermia or heat stroke according to the weather. If you are not dressed for the conditions, seeking refuge is all important. Fortunately, the woods are full of tools and resources to make the two shelters and fires (for extra warmth, safety, and signaling). Here are some things you can use:

* Look for a tree cut or bent. You can build a shed piled branches along a fallen tree, then the branches with a brush palm leaves or other plants.
* Use a brush or green branches (branch) trees to repel water, block wind, keep out the snow, or create shade. Near his house as parts as possible.
* Cuevas can be great, but is that the cave is not already occupied by bears, large cats, snakes and hostile animals others know caves are good, and they were looking for a refuge for more than you. Also make sure that does not collapse on you that reduces your chances survival significantly.
7. Find a good source of water. In a survival situation, it may take up to three days without water, but at the end of the second day you will not be in great shape, finding the water before that date.

* The best source is a source water, but the chances of finding it are slim. A sequence your best bet is to come, the movement of water reduces sediment. Being informed that the drinking water of rivers may lead to certain diseases, but when you are in a situation of life or death, the risk of disease is a secondary consideration.
* You can also use the sleeves to tie around your ankles when tomorrow, and walk on the grass for dew on the sleeves, and then suck the moisture in the fabric.
8. Purify water. A method of purification of raw water is take your boat on your hands and warm water. To do this effectively kills bacteria, it is necessary to boil for at least three minutes [1].
9. Building fire. Build a fire of good size, one with enough coal to keep warm for several hours, and make sure you have plenty of extra dry wood.

* A good rule of thumb is collect the wood until there is enough for the night, and three to pick up the batteries of the same size, and may have enough to spend the night.
* In desert, you must have access to dry wood in the understory of the forest. You can also use the bark or dried manure. If you build a fire that is enough hot can also burn green wood, brush or tree branches to make a traffic light (which makes a lot of smoke).
* The best wood to keep a fire of dead wood of a tree is pulled up. Any type of wood that are undoubtedly there will be some dry wood available. Remember that a small fire is easy to maintain combustion of a large fire, but because it requires less fuel. Once you have enough coal to keep the fire to a manageable size, to avoid spending too much time looking for fuel.
* Find the tinder (small equipment, such as dry grass, feathers or bark chips, which burns easily). When burned, Amadou creates a lot of smoke, which alerts people to your site.
* Lighting the fire. Generally, you can use the sun's energy to power a fire with a magnifying glass, a lens of the glasses, a piece of broken glass, a cover for a watch or a compass, or other light objects, the light intensifies. It is very difficult to start a fire by friction, it is best to get a variety of implements from fire.
10. Search for healthy foods. Know that most healthy adults can survive up to three weeks without food, except it is cold. [2] It is better to be hungry and healthy than sick. Make sure you know the food is safe before eating. If there is anything that will reduce their ability to survive is to be lost and seriously ill. Famine is not a big problem.

* Do not be afraid to eat insects and other pests. Although it may be unpleasant to eat a few grasshoppers, they provide useful nutrition information. All insects should be cooked, as it can harbor parasites that can kill you. Do not eat brightly colored caterpillars or insects, such as poisons that can be. Do not eat the insects that can bite or sting like bees and scorpions. Remember, if you have six feet or less, is likely to allowed to eat. Remove the legs, head and wings of an insect before eating.
* If you are near water, fish are a good choice. The only problem is that difficult to catch. Small fish can be eaten whole. Large fish should be cooked.
* The berries are good to eat. There is a square color test that can help to find what's edible. White and yellow berries are toxic 90% of the time. Blue and black fruits are ready to eat 90% of the time. The red berries are a hit 50-50. Total berries (blackberries and raspberries as potholes) are okay to eat 100% of the time with the only exception is a berry that grows in the blanks in Alaska.

Advice

* Tie brightly colored clothing (jackets, scarves, and even underwear) to the top of a tree to attract attention.
* If caught without a compass can be oriented in taking his watch, lining up hours in the sun, and then placing a blade of grass between the hand and 12 hour clock. Administration blade of grass is far south. This works in the northern hemisphere. In the southern hemisphere, reverse the role of working time and 12, and blade of grass is pointing north. About Ecuador, take note where the sun rises and sets, the sun rises in the east and is in the west.
* You can survive several weeks without food but only days without water for hours and perhaps homeless. Keep your priorities.
* If you're not quite sure where and how to return to familiar territory, not to proclaim: "I think in this way." The more you move once you realize you are lost, the worst are the chances of finding the way back.
* Remember carry a stick or cane with you. If not, all staff will adhere to the companies. The brand recently made on the ground will help you retrace your steps better than Hansel and Gretel.
* It is safer not to go into solitude.
* One of the most important survival tools is something that people never take into account: a tin cup. Without a tin cup, it is difficult to cook many foods.
* A gun has always been an essential tool of the jungle. A rifle or a .22 pistol can be used as a means to obtain food, self-protection against humans or animals and a pointing device. The cartridges can also be used heading for extinction.
* Another underrated, but important element in a survival kit is a big garbage bag light. They pack small, but can be used to transport water from a stream, you can wrap around a leafy branch end to trap water vapor emitted by the leaves, and can be used as an emergency poncho moisture and cold after having cut a hole for the head and arms. Filling his fortune poncho with leaves or grass can also provide additional insulation for the cold.
* Do not rely on modern technology like cell phones, GPS devices, radios or save if you're lost. Bring with you if available. But remember that these elements are not infallible, they have a backup plan.
* An acronym is important to remember "STOP", which means stop, think, observe, and plan.
* Each time you go into the wilderness (for example, go up), use a whistle. 1 bell means "I am lost", the two blows means "come" (If you hear someone whistle), and stroke in March: "It's an emergency" (if you are injured).
* At night, there is an increased risk die of cold. Keep dry. Dress warmly. Get on the floor. Make a "bed" layers of branches, leaves, branches, what is there, and cover its the same. To keep warm at night, the stones in the fire, and then bury them. Look at the top of the rock underground. Make sure that buried deep enough or you will burn.
* If you happen to have an object of reflection on you (a mirror, a Belt Buckle, whatever), use as a sign opposite to sun.
* If you are planning a long trip in an unknown terrain or there is always a good idea to have a backup plan. Detailed maps Guides / track food and water, and signaling devices like a mirror, flares, or even (depending on the duration and location of travel) a satellite beacon (PLB) can save your life.
* Rain, snow or dew can be a good source of clean water. You use anything in a glass with a piece of waterproof fabric with a leaf large to collect rain.
* If you do not stay where you are until someone found you not only choose a direction and start walking, even if have a means to ensure that you continue in this direction. Instead, try to go either up or down. Target offers up a good chance you'll find a perspective that can help you get your bearings. If you go downhill, you may find you can take water downstream and in many cases, this will take civilization. But do not follow the water downstream at night or in fog, as it can go off a cliff.
* Never, ever in the woods without a compass. Note direction where you enter the forest, for example, a road or a right way and if you are simply confused head back in the opposite direction to which you have written. If you do not Cardinal uses or find your stars and the positions of the sun and moon.
* Shoes / boot laces and make the rope in an emergency, but remember that once they are removed, becomes more difficult to walk.
* Shirt sleeves can be cut and used as bandages if necessary. Remember that unite around the wound to be still enough vague to paste one or two fingers between the tape and the notes / body.
* A tape can also be used to keep a dressing in place (not too loud!) As a bracelet of equipment, or as a trap.
* The sleeves of a waterproof jacket can be used to retain water by holding one end of them.
* If you want fish, you can make a fishing pole on a pole about 2 meters (6 feet) long and 1-3 cm thick, (bring your own fishing hooks). Peel the bark and stick with a knife or an ax, a reduction of 3.2 cm from the top of the stem. Attach one end of either chain or rope placed in the slot, then set the hook on the other end of the chain or cable. In addition, you can try the hook with a piece of meat, an insect, or anything else I try to use as bait.
* Your survival knife this must be a fixed blade with a solid sturdy handle a knife should be used as a backup, but it's better than nothing.

Disclaimer

* Keep your fire contained! Ensure that no combustible materials beneath your home and completely surround it with rocks or a wall of sand. Put your fire with large amounts of water to saturate, so there is no possibility that the slightest spark remaining. You should be able to unleashing the coals with bare hands. It is one thing is lost in the woods, but another to lose and surrounded by forest fire caused by his own negligence.
* If you encounter any snakes, leave them alone. Snakes bite because they are hungry or because they are threatened. We're too big to be seen as prey to most snakes, do not consider humans as food. Stay still and the snake disappears. attacks and reprisals. If he curls up on your computer, use a long stick to gently push. If he comes towards you, stay still. He did not know that you are at the root of your discomfort and if not go around, probably not even you noticed. There are several ways to identify venomous snakes, but the best care is to treat all snake if you can make a positive identification. In a survival situation, it is possible to eat snake. If you do not know if a snake is poisonous or not, but I want to eat, a good rule of thumb is to cut the head, then cut the same distance behind this point in the body. This will remove the venom glands, if appropriate. However, remember that it is against federal law to kill some endangered species of snakes, and some states against the law to kill all snakes (snakes help control the levels of parasites and insects).
* Make sure that if the heat from hot rocks, which are not wet. When heated in the fire, which blow the water inside the tower of cracks in the steam. Keep in mind that this could also be a concern when in a cave – too hot in the rocks hanging or nearby could cause an explosion or move their shelter.
* Never fly directly into a river because the water absorbs heat from its much more than air, which can lead hypothermia.
* Drink their own urine as a water source is not recommended [3].

Stuff You Need

These are things that are very difficult to do or you will not find in the forest.

* Whistle with a compass on it (which are sold on a necklace cord at times, and you can use the cable and if you need it)

* Lint or fluff (that is weightless and good tinder)
* Pot Boil water to cook the food /
* Universal tool / Swiss Army Knife
* Map of the region
* Hooks and a good amount of fishing line. Coil and store in a pocket. The hooks are good if you like fish, but may be useful for other purposes, too, and weigh almost nothing. Glue and cable in your wallet and put it in your back pocket.
* Three or four bars or small protein mountain portions of the mixture
