Bosal Hackamore VS Rope Halter! Advice?

I am a pleasure rider with a 6 year old paint gelding. He rides perfectly with a bit but I occasionally like to ride him with just a rope halter (tying the lead rope around his neck for reigns) when I ride bareback. He isn’t as “obedient” with the halter but I prefer it to the “strain” of the bit. So I am looking into buying a bosal hackamore that I can use instead of the rope halter, and even for trail rides. So I totally have like no idea what I’m getting myself into so I know you can get a bosal or just a hackamore…. what’s the difference? Also I am looking at the headstall with the rawhide nose piece, but will it rub his nose? I’m assuming that is why the fleece is an option. But any information I am grateful for! HELP!
I’m generally looking for something that gives me more control than the rope halter without a bit. And is used with reins like a bridle.

Hackamores can be very powerfull, they work on pressure points on the lower jaw bone, too much pulling and it can send you over backwards! The knot on the bottom of a bosal is to lower the head of the horse being trained, it is a very sensitizing form of training you give a bit of a bounce to the reign it generates a signal with the weight of the knot and the abrasion of the braided rawhide on the nose, a horse trained in the bosal responds to weight cues of the reins, bosal reins have “beads” made of braided rawhide, as you let out or take in the weight of the bead causes the weighted knot on the bosal to swing a bit, the horse feels this as a rub to the nose, dropping his head a bit more and maintaining that gait you have set him in between leg and rein. This training is the preperation the Spade Bit officianados used to train their mounts with. Not for the hands of amatures. A horsehair or rawhide bosal is very irritating. Unless you have real purposefull reason for it. I would use a mechanical hackamore with a leather nose band with or without the sheepskin, the hackamore must be used gently, it can be called a “nutcracker” because of it’s action, so if you use it with care it gives your horses mouth a rest if he seems sore or not resonsive to his bit. It must be used with caution because no bosal or hackamore has the power of a bit and a horse can run right through it! Or as I said freak out if he is not aquainted with it’s pressure. Good luck.
