Is it possible to ride a mtn bike 220miles in 24 hours?
A couple of friends and I want to ride the a 220mile section of the Katy Trail in Missouri. It is a flat trail along the river. We are hoping to ride the length of it in 24 hours or less.
The longest I have ridden a bike was 175 miles over 2 days, Sept 2009. This was a rode bike.
We will have some support with food and water along the way. They will be meeting us about every 50 miles.
If you are doing this kind of ride for the first time without training rides… NO. That said it is not an impossible distance for a 24 hr ride with proper training rides. You should have had several 100 mile trail rides previously in the same season before attempting this one.
Considering you will probably have to have all your food and water for the ride — have you thought through how you plan on carrying it with you? If there is camp sites along the way, load your packs and do it in 4 days. That would be more reasonable for someone of your ability. (no insult intended — if you really could ride 220 miles in 24 hours, you wouldn’t be asking here.)
