What is the cingular AT&T cell phone upgrade?
So, my family has been with Cingular for a long time and it’s past our 2 year contract (I’m pretty sure) but I only got a phone last year. I got a SLVR and someone ran over it and it’s a little over a year now but my family has been with Cingular/ATT for a little over 4 years. Can I get an upgrade (because I’m using this huge junk one from 2003)? Or cannot I not get an upgrade because I only bought my phone from last year?
BUT. I’m using a phone that is clearly over 2 years, would they allow me to get an upgrade if I show them the really old phone?
Also, I’ve been trying to get a go-phone or a Motorola phone or any kid of recent phone for cheap and uses a SIM card but I want it to be an authorized dealer sort of (no Craigslist) and I just want a sort of “go-phone” that uses a SIM card but AT&T/Cingular don’t let you do that. Any help?
The “cellphone upgrade” is just a gimmick to get you to renew your wireless plan or upgrade to a better/more expensive one (if you hadn’t done so recently) by offering to give you a 2-year-agreement discount on the phones.
Until a week ago, my family and I were in the same predicament, but we hadn’t renewed our contract in FOUR years. We just renewed our plan and snatched a few phones at the discounted price. I assume you can get the 2-year-agreement-instore price if you decide to renew after the two years are up. The only thing they care about is whether the contract is still valid, not that your phone is old. They get you to renew by offering cellphones, not the other way around.
From there, you can decide on buying phones. They do offer the Motorazr v3xx for $49 after a $50 mail-in rebate with the two year agreement; that probably coincides with your interests. You can get the Motorazr v3 for less, but I recommend the v3xx since its a bit newer and versatile (particularly the ability to add extra flash memory for songs and whatnot). I’m not totally sure on the “go-phone” field.
