Spokes Black

Mohawk, a city on the hill told us the story if Wereindian couple, black or conservative? -Film Review

Founded in 1939, is Hearts Mohawk a film about the American Revolutionary War in 1770.

The film is based on the novel of the same name Walter D. Edmonds.

(Since 've read this book, I can not discuss the case of adaptation).

Its director, John Ford (1894-1973) is the only director with four Oscars, this film Ford is a first color.

Ford was the director of 150 films and often participate in other works such as acting or writing.

In this film, as circulation test was specifically chosen stars.

Claudette Colbert (1903-1996) as Lana, who later, in 1999, was classified as the twelfth most important star of all time list by the American Film Institute and Henry Fonda (1905-1982) Gil Martin, who was named the male star sixth largest of all time in the same list, well played.

Edna May Oliver as Mrs. McKlennar, which condemned the Oscar for best actress in a role Please also admirable.

And not only the actors and actresses, but also fellow

Bert Glennon and Ray Rennahan and won the Oscar Best color photo.

But I think only of the cinematography and staging areas such as the creation was the style of play well was natural, lighting and sound special reference to the time the film was still young, it was good too, the film speed according to the class that is the war and the adventure is the case, the music is very beautiful and the camera angles and the target was so and so and so.

It is not good because reading and writing a movie like any other thing that has a particular method and a professional manner today, but I think it is best to avoid repeating

methods one by one, but finding a new way.

It is clearly beyond them, I would add that the author of the novel, and director sceenwriter are Americans and we realize later, the context can influence the way that tell the story and how this movie is a movie to explain about "a city on a hill "in a better Word How Mohawk is a city on the hill of America and, therefore, a metaphor for the United States.

Plot

The action begins with the wedding scene of the main actor and actress. Gil Martin (played by Fonda), a man takes his wife, rural town, Lana (played by Colbert) to the Mohawk Valley near New York.

They settled in a hut on the border. They grow to make a living and build a house for themselves with the help of their neighbors. But as the film is set in 1776, the period of U.S. Independence, comfort does not continue. At that time the Indians and conservatives, who were the Indian allies of the British Army were at war with the Nationalists during the reign of George Washington.

Thus conflicts begin, your farm, like many other houses are attacked and burned by Indians and Tories. Then Mrs. McKlennar, your neighbor, give them shelter if working for her.

For the defense, Mohawk nationalists form an army, and Gil as other men to attend the army and Lana helped other women behind the soldiers front. In the end, after a series of battles, the Nationalists won the war and the U.S. flag is raised atop the church and ends with the happy and the movie honor images of men, women, blacks, whites and Indians in the American flag.

Thus, the battles and bloodshed are not the whole story. The film contains not only the victory but also the romance and comedy, with the exception of Gil and Lana's wedding, the birth of his son, the massive dance and many comic scenes.

But what about the main theme, subthemes and massaging of the movie?

Analysis

ΠFrom the History of Americans New

Each film begins with his name and made this film. Although, according to opinion, interpretation, each has an individual and a realization individual text, but I want to clarify my understanding of movie title: it is "battery"? What does this word sign the bell of the church or the army in March?

Remember the scene face for the first time Lana Blue Back, the Indian who has lived friendship with the nationalists. As Lana never he had seen an Indian, he feared facing a man with a strange color and strange clothing. But "Blue Back" was a musical instrument, maybe a stick show your friendship and the reduction of Lana `s afraid of him. His instrument was a traditional Indian No, I think, and then pass it on to the newcomers who I call New Americans, it might mean that the Indians (Americans of age), confidence in the story to new Americans.

But it is true that Blue Back is representative of all Indians in relation to certain Indians who were allies Colombia, and the representative of all Americans Lana?

Hero Women

Bearing into account the story of a rich girl who married a farmer, at first Lana had brought a huge expensive clothes and has the honor of his past while enjoying of an old pot that was owned by his grandmother. And even when confronted with Blue Back, for the first time, she was crying and shouting for help, but step by step, became a hero of women, moved to rural life, taught agriculture and the work at hand, she helped her husband, she was happy, but she lost her home and their first child, who was sick, she gave birth to another child who has been a sign of good future she fought, has helped the soldiers, even she has taken up arms, she not afraid of death and eventually became an independent woman as the final scene, wearing a mantle of the revolutionary army.

If after lost the old boat was a sign of honor its past, is angry that he began writing a new story in the New World, in Mohawk, New York, USA.

So Lana has been representative of all Americans, even though she was a woman and although, in reality, all U.S. women have not had an effective role in the time Lana revolutionary.

Therefore, this film shows the beginning of the new history of America for the newcomers, the new Americans to replace the ancient American Indians. Also shows the impact of war on women's changing roles in the early history of America.

But what about Blue Back? He was the representative of all Indians in To some Indians who were allies of the British?

Ž Indian and the Indian wild

In the Throughout the film, the only Indian who has not been proven as a wild blue back, despite Lana for the first time Blue came back, I was so scared because point of view that Lana had a weird picture. But during the film, he was the only Indian who had converted to Christianity, spoke fluent English, but not treated Americans and has not been shown to be a savage.

But other Indians who were allies of the Conservatives, wild, were shouting and making noise strangers who had shown that humans without culture.

Before Blue Back is the representative of new generation of Indians who were allies of the Americans new convert to Christianity, speak English and decentralize new America for Americans.

A person with black patch over one eye;

Or an Indian or an enemy

Only two people in this film black band, the first time a conservative, the other Blue Back.

But what a person with a black eyes and eye patch?

Probably a pirate and a pirate is a villain.

Since the Indians as savages had shown the Conservatives like pirates and even the blue back that have dominated the white pirates had proved too so all good in this film are white revolutionaries.

This American exceptionalism is clear in the notice of director.

Ronald Steel (Steel: 1995) explains the feeling of excellent references the hero of the film thus: "What the American film hero is a lone fighter civilization, society, by virtue. He uses means hard to get a good strength, use is not an end in itself, but to a higher moral purpose. "

And this statement is dedicated to all the revolutionaries in this film, which means this statement is not devoted to the Tories and Indians.

Colonist Colonist of

Another scene wonderful is about Ms. McKlennar, when the Indians are beaten and attacked his house, she refused to get out of bed and fought hand to hand against the Indians, willingness to sacrifice his life to save her bed, she had agreed to murder.

But even if the film becomes clear how the colonists were concerned for your family and your community This breaks scene with this picture because Ms. McKlennar concerned about Lana and the other members of the house, which was worried about her bed therefore their individual benefits.

This scene, in fact, explains the role of individualism in the construction of a new America.

"A soldier is a Christain

Remember the words of Arthur Shields, a priest who has invited all men from sixteen to sixty military service and warned:''a man failing to report to the gallows before.

It is the story of the Church and the army at that time. A Christian activist and diversified. We have to face parallelism rights and faith.

Grace thus Mohawk nationalists formed an army and end the American flag is placed in the church.

"Ignore Black Discrimination

If we look closer, we see that every person in this movie, except the children are struggling, white, Indian and even the only black in this film is an officer, fights and happy for the win.

But the director said nothing about the discrimination against blacks at this time.

Type

In this film, narrated by the couple, especially Lana. But how storytelling, whether the couple Indians were black conservatives? As to whether there are more filmmakers are not white American?

Can we call this film a movie "historic" at this point that the filmmakers did not tell the whole story?

In fact, this film was produced by World War II, the principal may be enjoyed greater sense exceptionalist American idea that all Americans can live in a community for the good of all, the purpose of government, and therefore the construction a city on the hill.

But we must remember here that, although the screenwriter and director have brought me in their understanding of history, the fact that they Americans themselves are, and so have ignored some aspects of the real history of this period that discrimination in the Indian culture and black, but is largely explained the formative stages of a life in colonial America to independence, also the role of key institutions, family, religion (the Church) politics (the army), and the economy (agriculture).

housing for the wedding of Lana and Gil, forming a genuine community, procreation, close link between the army and the church, India convert to Christianity and the struggle and the struggle to form a community and the American flag.
