DoD Identification Procedures: A Brief Summary of MIL-STD-130N

The MIL-STD-130N is used by the Department of Defense as a set of standards to regulate the correct methods of keeping track of military property. Machine Readable Information is highly preferred by the Department of Defense, and specifications are provided for these types of markings as well. There are many requirements for different types of items specified by MIL-STD-130N, including objects relating to different groups in association with the Department of Defense, like the Air Transport Association and Automotive Industrial Action Group, as well as different regulations for objects with Item Unique Identification markings and those without them.
