From Western to English. How do you measure the Girth size for english??? I know the two are different.?
All my life I have always had an eye for english Style riding but never had the option of it, so now finally at 21 I went and bought an english saddle. However, I am unsure how to make sure I get the right size Girth. I am Training a 3yr old P.O.A. and she is only 13H and I know that her girth will be smaller I’m just not sure how to get the correct measurements for it. I know it has to be different than measureing for a western saddle…
What type of English saddle are you using?? Dressage with the longer billet straps, or jumping/all-purpose with shorter billett straps?
If your using an AP for a 13hh horse, roughly 600-700 pounds (average size, not overweight or a horse with a very round barrel (where the cinch/girth goes)), I would say probably a size 32 – 34. As others have already suggested, try a friend’s to get a better idea.
They’re traditionally measured in inches, so you can always grab a measuring tape to measure from ½ up the billet straps. You want to do the ½ way mark so you have room to adjust should your horse gain or lose weight.

Ropin the Wind $12.41 Brooks’s third album, 1991′s Ropin’ the Wind, found him distancing himself further from the new-traditionalist hat-pack. The album’s centerpiece was an all-stops-out Southern-rock cover of Billy Joel’s “Shameless.” Another hit single, “Rodeo,” boasted a slinky Creedence-style groove. Brooks’s propensity for sentimental folk-pop clichés surfaced on the ballads “What She’s Doing Now” and “The River… |
